is a tribute to more than seventy years of unforgettable moments in baseball broadcasting. Drawn from Ross Porter’s own private collection of interviews, this first volume brings readers face to face with legends of the game—players, managers, and broadcasters who shaped the Dodgers’ history. Presented in their original question-and-answer format, these conversations capture not only the stories behind the headlines, but the warmth, humor, and humanity that made Ross a trusted voice in Los Angeles sports for generations.
Ross Porter began his broadcasting career in his hometown of Shawnee, Oklahoma, calling local sports before earning degrees at the University of Oklahoma, where he also handled play-by-play for Sooners football and basketball. His talent and professionalism led him to a national platform with NBC Radio and television, covering everything from the Olympics to the NFL. In 1977, he joined Vin Scully and Jerry Doggett in the Los Angeles Dodgers booth, beginning a remarkable 28-year run as one of the franchise’s most respected voices. Known for his encyclopedic preparation and warmth on the air, Porter also hosted DodgerTalk and countless postgame interviews. He retired from the Dodgers in 2004, leaving behind one of the most admired legacies in baseball broadcasting.
